Even the most capable off-roading vehicles can get stuck and here’s proof. This Land Rover Defender 5-Door got stuck badly on a beach. Then Mahindra Thar came for the rescue operation. Here is what happened.
Land Rover Defender -It seems that the owner of the Land Rover-Defender was trying to cross an obstacle when the tires of the Defender lost grip and the bottom got stuck in the sand. The group of men in the defender were making efforts on their own to push the defender forward. However, the rear wheels of the Defender kept digging into the sand and got into trouble.
Since the SUV was at an angle, most of its weight fell on the rear wheels, causing the vehicle to sink. Also, the tires seem to be stock ones, which don’t perform very well in such low-traction areas.
Ultimately they decided to tow the Defender with another vehicle. A new generation Mahindra Thar came to the rescue. Instead of pulling the Defender from the front and overcoming the obstacle, he decided to pull the SUV in reverse.
After installing the tow hook, the Thar and Defender start putting power through the wheels to get stuck. All four wheels of the Thar did not get any traction initially and continued to move independently. However, once the Mahindra Thar got some momentum, it pulled the Defender out of the stuck position.
The Land Rover-Defender is a hugely popular SUV in India and has made a comeback after several decades. Indian and foreign owners have engaged in extreme off-roading adventures with this vehicle. Following initial sales, the British luxury carmaker added new engine options earlier this year. The Land Rover Defender 110 has five doors and a 5+2 seating option.
The Land Rover-Defender has impressive off-road capabilities. It has ample ground clearance of 291 mm, 38-degree approach angle and 40-degree departure angle. The SUV can wade through water up to 900 mm deep, which is quite extreme. It has a roof load capacity of 300 kg and a heavy load pulling capacity of 3,500 kg. Despite its off-road capability, the cabin retains a premium feel, with a 10-inch touchscreen in the center and Land Rover’s latest Piwi Pro infotainment system.
Talking about the off-roading capabilities of the all-new Thar, the new model is much more capable than its predecessor thanks to its all-new chassis and platform. Mahindra has also worked on improving the approach and departure angles of the vehicle by making changes to the front and rear overhangs. In the Mahindra Thar, the departure angle is 37 degrees, the breakover angle is 27 degrees and the approach angle is now 42 degrees
