One Nation One Ration Card

One Nation One Ration Card

Ministry Of Consumer Affairs, Food And Public Distribution

Details

Under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), the Department is implementing the “One Nation ” programme for the nationwide mobility of ration cards. This allows all NFSA-eligible ration card holders and beneficiaries to access their benefits from anywhere in the nation.

With the installation of ePoS devices at FPSs, the seeding of Aadhaar number beneficiaries with their ration cards, and the operationalization of biometrically authenticated ePoS transactions in the State/UTs, this plan enables the distribution of highly subsidised food grains through nationwide portability of ration cards through the implementation of an IT-driven system.

Recipients can provide any Fair Price Shop dealer in the nation with their Aadhaar number or their ration card number. Any family member who has seeded their Aadhaar number on their ration card is eligible for authentication and to have their ration lifted. To receive the benefit, you do not have to give the ration dealer your ration card or Aadhaar card. Recipients have the option to use their iris or fingerprints for Aadhaar authentication.

Beginning in August 2019, four states offered the interstate portability of ration cards through the One Nation One Ration Card programme. As of February 2022, 35 states and U.T.s had put the plan into effect.

Benefits

  1. With the use of this technology, any NFSA beneficiary—especially migratory beneficiaries—can easily claim foodgrains, either in full or in part, from any Fair Price Shop (FPS) across the nation using their current ration card and biometric or Aadhaar authentication.
  2. If they have any family members back home, the system also enables them to claim the remaining foodgrains on the same ration card.
  3. In addition, ONORC will allow the beneficiaries to select the dealer of their choice. In numerous instances of misallocation, the recipient has the ability to quickly transfer to a different FPS store in the event of dishonesty.
