The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, introduced the “Scheme for Grant of Rewards to the Children of Salt Labourers” in 1985 this is basically Children Reward Schemes(CRS). The “Scheme for Grant of Rewards to the Children of Labourers Working in Salt Industry (CRS)” was first established with the goal of awarding 20 rewards to the offspring of salt workers. These rewards were intended to help them cover all or part of the initial costs associated with purchasing books, stationery, and other necessities upon admission to accredited institutions for advanced education.

CRS :  From 2011 to 2012, 3500 prizes total, with a ₹45.00 Lakh financial impact. As to the plan, children in classes VI through VIII will receive ₹1000/-, students in classes IX through X will receive ₹1500/-, and students in classes XI through XII will receive ₹2000/-. However, there is a need that rewards for girl child be reserved, with a minimum of 50% allocation each state. If there are no female students in a specific Salt Factory or State, the prize may be awarded to the male students who meet the eligibility requirements in each category of another Salt Factory or State.

Benefits – CRS

  • Meritorious children of salt workers will receive rewards once a year for their academic achievements. These rewards will help the students cover all or part of the initial costs associated with purchasing books, stationery, and other supplies after being admitted to an institute approved by the state or federal government.
  • The students of the salt workers will receive prizes in cash, to be paid in one lump sum at the start of the academic year at the rates listed below:

Eligibility

  • Only salt workers’ children who have completed at least a year of continuous service in any salt plant and who have graduated from an approved government school may apply for the CRS programme.
  • A salt worker’s child ought to be enrolled in Classes VI through XII.
  • For a child of a salt worker to be qualified for a reward, the test must have been completed successfully on the first try.

Take Note 01:  Candidates from SC, ST, BC, and Backward Areas shall be given preference if they fall into either of these categories in addition to the general category, all other things being equal. 

Take Note 02: A minimum of 50% of the rewards for girl children should be reserved for each state. If there are no female students in a specific Salt Factory or State, the prize may be awarded to the male students who meet the eligibility requirements in each category of another Salt Factory or State.

Application Precedure

Application Process:

Step 1: If a salt worker’s child wants to apply for a prize, they must fill out the application form that is provided. The application form can be downloaded from the official website and comes with the Scheme Guideline (Annexure).

Step 2: The application form must be fully completed and sent to the Salt Commissioner, Jaipur, through the employer of the child, at the latest, by July 31st of the academic year in which the child passed the examination for the Primary, Middle, Secondary, or Higher Secondary School Certificate.

Note 01:  These applications must be submitted with a certificate from the salt worker’s employer stating the length of time the worker has been employed continuously in the salt industry.

Note 02:  In addition, these applications must be accompanied by a certified copy of the mark sheet, duly issued by the relevant Board, attesting to the child’s passing grade in the Primary, Middle, Secondary, or Higher Secondary School Certificate examination on their first attempt.

 

Scrutiny of Application:

Step 1: The Regional Officer will thoroughly review each application that he receives and then forward them to the Salt Commissioner along with recommendations that are appropriate for awarding incentives.

Step 2: By August 20 of the academic year at the latest, the regional officer will process all of these applications and forward them, together with his recommendations, to the Salt Commissioner, Jaipur.

 

Note: The applicant’s percentage of marks in the Primary, Middle, Higher Secondary, or School Certificate test for that academic year will serve as the Regional Officer’s sole guide for making this scrutiny and recommendation.

Process of Selection

After receiving an application, the Salt Commissioner will review each one carefully and determine which cases will result in awards being given, based on recommendations from the Regional Officer.

Note 01: The Regional Officer’s suggestions and the applications’ merits will serve as the Salt Commissioner’s guiding principles in each instance.
Note 02: The Salt Commissioner’s judgement about the award of awards is final, and there will be no appeals or correspondence regarding his choice.

Required Documents: 

  1. An applicant’s identity document, such as an Aadhar card, etc.
  2. A certification proving the child passed the first try of the Primary, Middle, Secondary, or Higher Secondary School Certificate exam.
  3. A certified copy of the mark sheet, properly issued by the relevant Board, displaying the marks earned by the salt worker’s child in the aforementioned examination.
  4.  The applicant’s birth certificate

  6. Bank account information, Bank Pass Book, 
  7. Employer’s certificate for the applicant’s parents.
